Cottonunity

This 3-D animation was a project I completed in the Spring of 2013 in my Advanced Animation Studio. Taking the hypernatural theme from the NC State’s Art2Wear show and the topic of cotton from the Cotton Initiative Competition, I created a story about a shriveled-up cotton plant who is the sole survivor of a malicious attack by mechanical beetles. Due to this scarring event, this poor cotton plant must overcome his fears of the imposing technological world when he encounters another species of the man-made race—a glowing, mechanical butterfly. Taking the verb definition of “cotton” and the overall meaning of “unity,” this short film tells a tale about the unlikely friendship between two very diverse forms of life—thus, the title of “Cottonunity.”
